چکیده

This paper presents gesture analysis under the scope of motor control theory. Following the motor program view, some studies have revealed a number of invariant features that characterize movement trajectories in human handarm gestures. These features express general spatio-temporal laws underlying coordination and motor control processes. Some typical invariants are described and illustrated for planar pointing and tracing gestures. We finally discuss how these invariant laws can be used for motion edition and generation.

Neural Network Performance Analysis for Real Time Hand Gesture Tracking Based on Hu Moment and Hybrid Features

This paper presents a comparison study between the multilayer perceptron (MLP) and radial basis function (RBF) neural networks with supervised learning and back propagation algorithm to track hand gestures. Both networks have two output classes which are hand and face. Skin is detected by a regional based algorithm in the image, and then networks are applied on video sequences frame by frame in...

Invariant Human Pose Feature Extraction for Movement Recognition and Pose Estimation by

Reliable extraction of human pose features that are invariant to view angle and body shape changes is critical for advancing human movement analysis. In this dissertation, the multifactor analysis techniques, including the multilinear analysis and the multifactor Gaussian process methods, have been exploited to extract such invariant pose features from video data by decomposing various key cont...

Time-Invariant State Feedback Control Laws for a Special Form of Underactuated Nonlinear Systems Using Linear State Bisection

Linear state bisection is introduced as a new method to find time-invariant state feedback control laws for a special form of underactuated nonlinear systems. The specialty of the systems considered is that every unactuated state should be coupled with at least two directly actuated states. The basic idea is based on bisecting actuated states and using linear combinations with adjustable parame...

To Gesture or Not to Gesture: What is the Question?

Computer synthesized characters are expected to make appropriate face, limb, and body gestures during communicative acts. We focus on non-facial movements and try to elucidate what is intended with the notions of "gesture" and "naturalness". We argue that looking only at the psychological notion of gesture and gesture type is insufficient to capture movement qualities needed by an animated char...
